Mr.
Saakvitne's pension clients have ranged from small corporations
to those with thousands of employees. He has also represented
many pension administration firms, advising them on technical
ERISA issues and practical problem solving for their clients.
He
has been a Technical Editor for more than 15 years for the American
Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries'
'The Plan Consultant. He has given more than 100 presentations
in the last 35 years for ASPPA conferences (including
ASPPA's Annual Conference in Washington D.C. and the Los Angeles
Benefits Conference) and for those of the National
Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA) as well
as other benefits organizations.
His
experience in handling Internal
Revenue Service audits and Department
of Labor reviews and investigations, and his fiduciary work
with the Department of Labor, have given him credibility with
those agencies.
Mr.
Saakvitne's pension practice has included documentation and
design work with multiple employer plans; work with ESOPs and
other employer stock plans; advice to fiduciaries;
tax planning for distributions; and in the fields of nonqualified
deferred compensation, and VEBAs used to fund health plans.
For many years, Mr. Saakvitne fielded phone calls from administration
firms every day for questions arising on issues involving their
clients, serving as a technical resource on virtually all aspects
of pension law.
At
this time, Mr. Saakvitne's fiduciary work has subsumed his
technical pension law practice and he no longer accepts
non-fiduciary pension law projects.
